Bubonic Tonic, Color Change Plague Potion Prop
Darkly beautiful, this potion reminds us of a time when tomorrow wasn’t promised. The color changing swirls are captivating, and can even be used as a stim or meditation tool. The top of the label is decorated with a Memento Mori motif, which has historically been used to contemplate life and death, and to help us appreciate the time we have.
-Glass bottle is full of a dark grey (almost black) potion with bubos (water beads) floating in it. It changes to a swirling, vibrant blue-purple when shaken, and will settle down to dark grey in about 20 minutes. Sometimes the purple will settle onto the beads and be slightly visible, and sometimes it settles past the beads.
-Aged cork is sealed with waterproof glue, and finished with red faux wax dripping down the side.
-Neck is wrapped in black cotton cord and textured bronze chain, with two howlite skulls at the ends.
-Aged label is a 1665 cover page to that years Bills of Mortality for London, which was one of the peak years of The Great London Plague. It's a high quality image, and most of the text is legible. It reads:
London's dreadful visitation
Or, a collection of all the
Bills of Mortality
For the present year:
Beginning the 27th of December 1664, and
ending the 19th of December following
As also, the general or whole years bill:
According to the report made to the
King's Most Excellent Majesty
By the Company of Papal Clerks of London"
My potions are designed to look old and aged, but to stand up to handling. Your potions will last many, many years, if kept away from extreme heat and direct sun (think windowsill).
